Present & Pleased Devotional DAY SIXTEEN

What makes a church successful? What comes to mind first - a dynamic speaker, amazing venue, or an engaging worship experience? God intended for His bride, those who claim His name, to be much more than what comes to our mind. He cares most about the faithfulness, of His bride. He cares about whether people are lovers of Him.

While Jamie might be able to get people in the doors of Central with his amazing jokes, the fact remains he cannot convince people to be obsessed with Jesus. Jon can talk people into praying a prayer, but he cannot talk anyone into falling in love with Christ. Randy cannot make someone understand and accept the gift of grace.

Only the Holy Spirit can do that. So, we need the Holy Spirit. Desperately.

J.I. Packer writes, “The Christian’s life in all its aspects – intellectual and ethical, devotional and relational, up surging in worship and outgoing in witness – is supernatural; only the Spirit can initiate and sustain it. So apart from Him, not only will there be no lively believers and no lively congregations, there will be no believers and no congregations at all.”

Zechariah 4:6 "It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies."
We're in an era of transformation here at Central. The foundation is strong. The future is bright. We seek life changing ministries at Central. We seek God’s design for how the church should operate. But, all of that is empty if the Spirit isn't the fuel.

Church isn't an event, it’s an ongoing relationship in which the Spirit continues to work in us to make us the people He wants us to be. He wants to completely transform us.

"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!" Galatians 5:22 -23 May we be a church family fueled by the Spirit and produce the fruit God desires.
