Present & Pleased Devotional DAY TWENTYFOUR

Years ago, a pilot crossing the Atlantic saw a rat chewing on some wires in the cockpit. The pilot suspected the rat was a stowaway in a box loaded before takeoff. The pilot was worried, not knowing what wires those sharp teeth might be cutting. It was two hours back to the airport.

But then the pilot remembered rats couldn’t survive in higher altitudes where oxygen is low. A rat is not made for the heights but to live on the ground. So, the pilot began to climb, thousands of feet higher, and the gnawing stopped. When the plane landed, a dead rat was found in the cockpit.

Worry is like a rat, slowly gnawing away at the soul. Worry threatens our peace and can bring destruction and disaster. But worry cannot survive in an atmosphere of faith and prayer.

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6 – 7

Those verses and many more tell us, “The rat of worry will suffocate when you reach the heights of faith and prayer.”
