Present & Pleased Devotional DAY TWENTYSEVEN

Is it just me, or do you also always seem to be tired? It seems the older I get, the sleepier I become, and I don’t even have kids! Old age is going to stink.

When Jesus went to pray in the garden of Gethsemane (Mark 14:32-42), He told some of His disciples to sit and keep watch. Jesus went off to pray for the first time, and when He returned, they were asleep (I guess they were a lot like us! lol). Jesus basically tells them, “Come on guys. You need to stay awake.” He went away to pray again, and when He returned, same thing. Asleep. This time He got firmer with them. When He went away to pray for a third time and came back to find them asleep again, He let them have it (verse 41&42).

Though we may be tired, like these disciples, there is work to be done. Life is too short. Now, I am not saying don’t rest. The Bible mentions often how rest is a good thing. What I am trying to say is summed up best in Ephesians 5:16-17 “Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”

Just like in the story above, we have a job to do. Big or small, we have the responsibility to work at it with all our heart, soul, and mind for a greater purpose. Sometimes we do need someone to help us stay awake. Find some godly friends, don’t overcomplicate things, and let’s get to WORK!
