Present & Pleased Devotional DAY TWENTYEIGHT

But the time is coming—indeed it’s here now—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship Him that way.  For God is Spirit, so those who worship Him must worship in spirit and in truth.”  John 4:23-24

Spirit and truth. Heart and mind. We need both.

Many of us naturally bend a little more toward worshiping in spirit or worshiping in truth. We often find one more comfortable than the other. This may stem from our church background (or lack of it), our family upbringing, etc.

Regardless—Jesus said we must worship in spirit and in truth. This is an imperative.

I am so thankful to be at a church where the truth of God has been honored and faithfully preached more than a century, even when it’s not popular. I am equally thankful worshiping in spirit is being welcomed every day among us.

We need both.

God is after our hearts, and head knowledge without surrender of our heart is not the full picture. Just as being moved by feelings that are not grounded in God’s Word are not the full picture.

I am moved by verse 23 where we’re told that God is looking for those who will worship Him that way. Since He is looking, let’s be found obedient: worshiping in spirit and truth.
