Present & Pleased Devotional DAY THIRTYEIGHT

ONE GOOD THING

"This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it." Psalm 118:24

When times are tough, it can be especially difficult to maintain an optimistic perspective. With so many events cancelled or changed due to the COVID pandemic, 2020 was downright depressing at times. And it wasn’t just adults who felt that way; children felt it too.

Encouragement is one of the best remedies for discouragement. So one day during our virtual youth group meeting, I asked students to tell me one good thing about their week. Sometimes the answers were sentimental (“I got to see my grandparents for the first time in a while.”) Sometimes the answers were silly (“I ate mac & cheese every day this week”). But the more good things that were shared, the more the mood lifted in the room.

Even when you can’t think of one good thing from your week, you still have at least one good thing going for you. God loves you so much that He sent His Son to die on a cross to forgive your sins and make a way for you to live forever in Heaven with Him.

So smile! You’ve got more good going for you than you think.
