Does your guilt keep you from God’s presence? I have been leading small groups for high school students for many years, and I have often heard students say things like “I have made too many mistakes” or “How could God forgive me?” These questions are difficult to work through, but fortunately we have Jesus.  Jesus made a way for us to be in the very presence of God, no longer restricted by sin and guilt. In the book of Hebrews, chapters 4 and 5, we read about Jesus being our high priest, the ultimate sacrifice to redeem us from our sin.

Hebrews 4: 16 says, “Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.”

I use a study Bible, and my Bible has a note about this verse and it says that the “throne of grace” represents God’s presence, the place from which He responds to our prayers.  We are so broken in our sin. So full of shame and guilt.  Feeling so unworthy, and so unlovable.  But because of JESUS.. because of His love for us, because of His obedience to the Father, because of his sacrifice for us on the cross… we can now approach God’s very presence with CONFIDENCE.  That means we can leave behind everything that would hinder us from being in the presence of God.  We can step forward in confidence to present our needs to him, to receive mercy, and to receive grace. So today would you confidently approach the presence of God, knowing that there is a place for you there.

Jesus, thank you for making a way for us to be in the presence of God.  Help us to accept your mercy and your grace.  Help us to walk boldly in your love, knowing that you made a way.  Amen.
