Do you ever feel as if time is slipping through your fingers? It seems families are too busy nowadays. The daily schedule has been filled with soccer practice, dance rehearsal, tumbling, music lessons, and that is just for one kid! When you add school, church events, and birthday parties, it seems there are not enough hours in the day. Even more damaging, there is not enough time allotted for the family to be “a family.” Conversations are scripted and short. Family activities are replaced with electronic devices.

Families no longer gather around the table for a meal, but scarf down food in our seatbelts as we go through another drive-thru window. That is not what God wants for us. He longs for us to enjoy, encourage, and motivate each other to greater things by spending real quality time together. “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. Let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.” (Heb. 10:24-25 NLT) Remember, “busy” is not equivalent to “beneficial”. Activity does not equate accomplishment. Take time to talk. Have fun being silly with each other. Jesus is coming back to take us home one day. Do you really want to say, “Well, at least I was busy?”

Application: Plan a fun activity, game night, or family dinner this week to give everyone a chance to relax, exhale, and really share about what’s going on in their lives.
