A while back I was driving home and decided to listen to the radio.  The show I randomly landed on started to take a few phone calls.  A woman called in and I could tell by what she said, she was an atheist.  She said “I’m an atheist… (which gave it away).  She continued, “I’m an atheist because if there was a loving God, there would be no child abuse, no murder, no riots.  If there was a loving God, there would be no pain, no suffering, no racism…”  and as she was listing these things, I wanted to call in myself and say, “Excuse me ma’am, but what you’re describing is not a loving God’s earth, what you’re describing is His heaven”.

You see, we have already tried the “heaven on earth” thing and we messed that up.  I would love to blame Adam and Eve for that, but the Bible says we have all sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard (Romans 3:23).  Unfortunately, this world is populated with imperfect people doing imperfect things.  Even those of us trying to do our best still fall into that group.  No amount of arrests, demands, or legislation will change that here.

If a loving God does exist, He would allow us to make our own decisions, including to love Him back.  He would sacrifice to prove His love for us and give us a pathway back to Him, an opportunity for all our mistakes to be erased.  If a loving God does exist, He would prepare a place for those who choose to follow Him when their life on earth is over and this place would be the best!  It would have no child abuse, no murder, no pain, and no suffering.  All people there would be cared for and nurtured.  No one would ever feel unwanted or excluded.

A loving God does exist, but this earth is not His heaven, heaven is heaven.
