THE GLAD GAME
I’ve got that joy, joy, joy, joy, down in my heart….where?!? Yeah I know, it can be tough to see these days!
You guys remember the story of Pollyanna? I grew up in a house with three sisters. I now have a wife and 2 daughters. For better or worse, movies like that are a pretty solid part of my knowledge base 🙂
It’s an old story made into a 1960 Disney movie about an orphan girl who is forced to deal with lots of hard situations. But rather than sink into negativity, Pollyanna introduces the people around her to what she called the “glad game.” Her cheer, changes the town.
Surely you see where this is going…calling all Pollyannas!
Your life might be significantly different than it was a few months ago. Most are.
You may have lost a job, faced a terrible tragedy, experienced a hardship few ever do. If that’s you, I am so sorry.
But the truth is, most of the of the negative rhetoric out there today is shot from the hip of the inconvenienced. I am not suggesting we make light of serious situations. I am not proposing Godly people never have bad days. I am certainly not saying the church should be happy-go-lucky with a unicorn and rainbow outlook. I am saying, as Christians, our gladness is drawn from an untouchable well. I am affirming we have an unshakeable spiritual foundation. I am reminding us all that even on really hard days, you and I have MUCH to be grateful for.
So, let’s play the glad game! Do me a favor and post something you’re glad about today. Turn the tide and lift your eyes to the Giver of every good gift, the Rock on which our faith stands, the Source of actual joy. The kind of joy that is…you know…down in my heart to stay!
8I keep my eyes always on the Lord.
With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
9 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices;
my body also will rest secure
